Fermfeed Bio Ltd., the Kenyan subsidiary of ChungWoon Biotech, has completed the expansion of its TMF feed manufacturing facilities in Murang’a and Nyandarua, two of Kenya’s major livestock-producing regions, and has commenced full-scale operations.
The expansion was undertaken to increase the production capacity of high-quality TMF (Total Mixed Fermented Feed) made from locally sourced agricultural and livestock by-products, while ensuring a stable supply of affordable feed to Kenya’s dairy and beef cattle farmers.
With these two production hubs, Fermfeed Bio is strengthening its local production system across the entire value chain—from raw material sourcing and fermentation to formulation, quality control, and distribution. Through this initiative, the company aims to reduce farmers’ dependence on imported feed and exposure to unstable raw material supplies while contributing to higher productivity and income among smallholder farmers.

With numerous small- and medium-sized dairy farms and cooperatives operating in the area, demand for high-quality feed is strong. The region also offers favorable distribution conditions for supplying products to surrounding areas.
Through the recent expansion, Fermfeed Bio has increased the fermentation and mixing capacity of its Murang’a plant and enlarged its production space. The facility combines locally sourced agricultural materials and by-products with scientific formulation technology and fermentation processes. It has also established an integrated production system that enables efficient management from the receipt of raw materials through manufacturing and distribution.
The TMF feed produced at the Murang’a plant is formulated to provide livestock with a balanced supply of essential nutrients, supporting increased milk yields in dairy cattle and improved weight gain in beef cattle. In addition to supplying its products, Fermfeed Bio plans to operate livestock management training and demonstration feeding programs in cooperation with local cooperatives and livestock farmers in Murang’a. Fermfeed Bio has established fermentation and formulation facilities suited to Nyandarua’s raw material characteristics and climatic conditions. It has also strengthened its quality control procedures, covering raw material inspection, production process management, and finished-product verification. This system provides a foundation for consistently producing high-quality TMF feed even when raw material types and moisture levels vary.
The Nyandarua plant uses TMF technology to transform locally generated agricultural by-products into high-value feed, improving resource efficiency and reducing waste. From Local Production to Higher Farm Incomes
The Murang’a and Nyandarua plants perform complementary roles based on the distinct strengths of their respective regions. The Murang’a plant will serve as a production, supply, and farmer training hub for Central Kenya, where dairy farms and cooperatives are concentrated. The Nyandarua plant will be developed as a hub for circular production using abundant agricultural resources and for expanding feed supplies to climate-vulnerable regions.
Building on the full-scale operation of these two plants, Fermfeed Bio plans to gradually expand its TMF production and distribution network across Kenya. In cooperation with local research institutions, universities, government agencies, and international organizations—including the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO)—the company will conduct data-driven evaluations of milk yields, weight gain, feed efficiency, and the potential for greenhouse gas reductions.
Fermfeed Bio will also expand feed production and feeding training, demonstration farm programs, and long-term monitoring initiatives for local cooperatives and farmers.
