Sharing Local Application Results and Future Potential at KALRO Lanet Beef Research Institute

TMF Fermented Feed Officially Launched at KALRO Lanet Beef Research Institute

On August 1, 2025, the official launch event for Total Mixed Fermentation (TMF) feed was held at the Lanet Beef Research Institute of the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO) in Nakuru, Kenya.

TMF is a livestock feed produced using fermentation technology developed in South Korea and adapted to local conditions in Kenya. It is manufactured using locally available agricultural by-products and crop waste, including rejected tomatoes and avocado residues. Through microbial fermentation, the feed achieves improved digestibility, enhanced nutritional value, and extended shelf life, allowing it to maintain stable quality without the use of preservatives.

The launch event was attended by representatives from KALRO, officials from the Nakuru County agriculture sector, and local dairy farmers. During the event, participants shared insights into the technical characteristics of TMF feed, its applicability to local farming conditions, and the outcomes observed through pilot trials.

Among the pilot cases presented, one dairy farm reported that after adopting TMF feed, the average daily milk yield per cow increased from approximately 20 liters to 30 liters within one month.

This improvement was achieved without the use of additional supplements and was evaluated as a meaningful gain in productivity.

The launch event served as an opportunity to officially introduce TMF fermentation feed technology through collaboration with a local research institution, while also sharing its potential as a new feed alternative suited to the livestock production environment in Kenya.
